Meet Duane C. Whitaker, MD

Dr. Whitaker Bainbridge WADr. Whitaker is a Board Certified dermatologist and member of the American College of Mohs Surgery.

For more than 30 years, Dr. Whitaker has treated skin cancer using Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Reconstruction techniques. His expertise, coupled with a caring and personalized approach, assures his patients’ comfort and peace of mind.

Dr. Whitaker is a leader in his field, having served as President of the American College of Mohs Surgery, Professor of Dermatology and Fellowship Director at the University of Iowa, and Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Arizona. He has trained more than 22 Mohs Surgeons and over 150 Dermatology specialists. In addition, for 20 years he has been listed in Best Doctors in America, has published over 100 articles, book chapters and educational materials in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer.

Dr. Whitaker practices in Arizona, California and Washington, recently establishing his own clinic on Bainbridge Island, Washington. In 2014 he established the first Mohs Surgery Training program at the University of Arizona and the Southern Arizona Veterans Administration to improve access and quality of care for Veterans.

Prior to becoming a physician he was a decorated combat infantry officer in the U.S. Army and awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star with Oakleaf Cluster for Valor. Dr. Whitaker is a lifelong teacher who advocates professional medical education and skill improvement for practicing physicians, and believes patient care should be distinguished by best surgical and medical practices. Dr. Whitaker takes pride in providing the highest level of surgical skills and medical knowledge with compassionate and personalized care for his patients.

J. Darlene Franks, PA-CBainbridge Skin Surgery and Consultative Dermatology is pleased to welcome Darlene Franks as she joins our Skin Surgery/Dermatology practice. .

Darlene, a graduate of the University of California, Davis School of Medicine is a dual certified Physician’s Assistant and Nurse Practitioner.

As the next step in the development of our Bainbridge Island Dermatology practice, Dr. Whitaker sincerely welcomes her aboard as 'she brings over 12 years of experience, including Urgent Care and Family Medicine and has a special interest and experience in the recognition and diagnosis of skin cancer and precancerous conditions - she will be an asset to our team.'
